A LATE 18TH CENTURY"SELENUS " BONE CHESS SET UNDER A VINTAGE GLASS CLOCHE

,

Details:

The German chess pieces in the Selenus style date to the late 1700’s to early 1800’s, and most probably from Nuremberg. One side in stained dark brown, the other side left natural, kings and queens with single tulip galleries, bishops with spiked urn finials, knights as horses' heads, rooks as slender turrets, pawns with baluster knops. The pieces are suspended on slender stainless steel rods under a glass cloche from the early 20th century., Overall the pieces are in good condition considering their age, some minor damage to the white king and one white knight as seen in the photos.
