These early twentieth century wedding quilts, were made by women of the Miao ethnic group in Guangxi, China. No two Miao quilts are ever exactly alike. Made from hand-loomed, vegetable dyed cotton, the quilting pieces were individually cut by hand and represent: dragons, butterflies, birds, squirrels, bats and other mythical and realistic creatures. Hand sewn, these quilts represent the hopes and dreams of the women who created them. Framed with modern, gilt carved wood frames and black linen matting, these quilts are both rustic and refined.
